Through our program partners and your ongoing generosity:
women have been served
women have been permanently housed
women have secured employment
community volunteers have been mobilized
The Fund for Homeless Women (FHW) was established to help create and support services for unsheltered women on the Monterey Peninsula (communities including: Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Seaside, Sand City, Marina, Carmel Valley, and Big Sur).
Started in 2012 by concerned citizens who encountered homeless women living in fear and desperation, the FHW has raised more than $1,000,000 and granted more than $940,000 to address this important issue. As a field of interest fund at the Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC), the Fund for Homeless Women awards grants to improve the lives of unsheltered and unaccompanied women.
This website and all supplies, materials and donor events are produced by the Fund for Homeless Women and paid for by the fund co-organizers with personal resources and through administrative funds solicited for that purpose. Fund co-organizers are volunteers and unpaid. 100% of the money raised by the Fund goes into the Fund to support community programs and services for women who are homeless.
Why do we partner with the Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) rather than become a 501C3? The answer is simple—Stewardship.
- As part of the CFMC, the Fund for Homeless Women is a trusted steward of charitable assets and donor intent.
- The fund is invested as part of a $190 million portfolio, which earned 15.4% return on investment in 2017.
- The endowed fund is a permanent resource to meet changing circumstances. A percentage of the Fund’s value is available to grant each year, while the principal is invested to grow over time and make grants in perpetuity.
Endowment
Please help us build the endowment for future, long-term sustainable solutions, and for an ever-expanding income stream to support current programs in our community that serve women living without adequate shelter in this generation and in years to come. Earned income from the endowment (approximately 5%) is added to the spendable fun each year.
Spendable Fund
Please help build the spendable fund which is offered each year to qualified programs in our community. Please join this unique community effort to help meet the most immediate needs of women experiencing homelessness on the Monterey Peninsula.
Scholarship Fund
Please help build the scholarship fund which is offered each year to assist women who are homeless on the Monterey Peninsula to achieve their educational goals. Higher education offers one of the surest pathways out of poverty and homelessness. Yet youth who experience homelessness face barriers to accessing financial aid.
